WCPA regularly provides summer internships for qualified drama students at its facility at the Jones Theater in Westcliffe Colorado. Many former interns have said that it was the best summer experience that they have ever had in learning about the theater. We are located in a picturesque small town at the foot of the Sangre De Christo Mountains. See: www.westcliffecenter.org
The interns participate in every facet of theater
work. In addition they work with local children for
a, two week long, session of our summer creativity
camp for local children, now in its seventeenth
year.
The camps consist of theater training in
improvisation, theater games, story telling, makeup
and costume. The children present original skits at
the end of a two-week session, which they have
developed with the help of the interns. Creativity
Camp this year is late June 27th through July 8th,
and is non-residential, for local children 6-14.
Camps take place from 10AM-1PM each day in the great
room of Studio 2, adjacent to the Jones Theater.
In addition, interns will be able to perform roles in at least one main stage production i.e. “Henry1V Part One,” and/or “As You Like It”, by William Shakespeare. They will be involved in acting or in the technical aspects of our third main stage production, “ Barefoot In the Park” i.e. lighting, set design, building and set decoration. One student may also be involved in co-directing our Youth Theater musical production in late August, if their college schedule and background permit.
The Internships run from June 1 until the end of
July, and can continue through August, depending
upon student availability and interest. Internships
are limited to four students. The theater provides
excellent housing in its new building, Studio 2. in
a modern, furnished, four-bedroom student apartment.
We also pay a weekly living allowance of $150. We do
not reimburse travel expenses.

internships should be made to Anne Kimbell Relph,
